Pedaling for Peace: Tri-Nation Cycling Event Set to Showcase Unity of Israel, Bahrain, and UAE

Next year’s international cycling calendar is poised to conclude with a race symbolizing much more than athletic prowess. The event, titled “The Peace Race,” will run its course through Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. More than a test of endurance and strategy, this race heralds an era of peace, friendship, and mutual recognition born from the Abraham Accords.

Spearheaded by Sylvan Adams, a Canadian-Israeli philanthropist, and entrepreneur, this unique race is scheduled for October 2024. Competitors will pedal their way through three exhilarating stages, each located in a different participating country, beginning in Israel.

This innovative sporting event is another testament to the strengthening regional relationships following the Abraham Accords of 2020. Under this historic agreement, Israel successfully forged peaceful relations with four Arab nations, led by the UAE and Bahrain.

Speaking from the ongoing Tour de France competition, Adams highlighted the unity-promoting potential of sports. “This will show how the sport of cycling, and sports in general, can be a force for good in bringing peoples and nations together, creating bridges, and having a more peaceful world through sport,” he said.

The tri-nation race has already gained the blessing of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the governing body of cycling. Not only that, but Adams revealed that a season-ending UCI Gala, rotating between the three countries, is also on the agenda. With its groundbreaking format, this international competition is sure to command global interest.

Adams, known for his efforts to enhance Israel’s global image, has orchestrated several high-profile events in Israel, such as an exhibition soccer game featuring Lionel Messi and the Argentine national team, Madonna’s appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest finals, and the French Super Cup—all hosted in Tel Aviv. His resume also includes organizing the first three stages of the largest sporting event Israel has ever hosted: the 2018 Giro d’Italia Grand Tour road cycling race.

In conclusion, the Peace Race is another step forward for Israel, showcasing the nation’s commitment to peace and cooperation. It reiterates the message of the Abraham Accords, celebrating unity, friendship, and understanding between nations. As the race gathers attention, Israel stands as a beacon of peace and sportsmanship, its spirit echoing in the cycling event’s call for unity and camaraderie. It’s yet another testament to Israel’s commitment to forging lasting peace, promoting goodwill through sport, and representing a nation that is open, welcoming, and committed to making the world a better place.
