A Testament to Resilience: Surviving a Terror Attack in Jordan Valley

In the face of adversity, the strength and resilience of the Israeli people never wane. In a shocking act of violence, a woman in her 30s was slightly wounded in a terror attack this past Wednesday in Israel’s peaceful Jordan Valley.

The event unfolded as a terrorist targeted her car from a passing vehicle near Hamra Junction, located east of Shechem on Highway 57. The victim, whose name is being withheld for her safety, sustained facial injuries from glass shards. Thankfully, her husband and two young children, who were with her at the time of the attack, emerged unscathed, a small miracle in a difficult moment.

On-site paramedic Yonatan Shenbai of Magen David Adom shared his experience: “When we arrived at the scene, we saw the vehicle with gunshot marks. Inside the car were four passengers: A man, a woman, and two children, aged 9 and 6. Thankfully, only one passenger was hurt. We administered medical treatment on the spot and then evacuated her to the hospital.”

This incident followed closely on the heels of another shocking event. On Tuesday, six people were injured, two severely, in a similar act of violence near a shopping mall in the city of Maale Adumim, just east of Jerusalem. The assailant, armed with an M-16 rifle, targeted innocent passersby before being neutralized by a brave off-duty Border Police officer who was present at the scene.

Commenting on the recent incidents, Shlomo Ne’eman, Gush Etzion Regional Council Mayor and Chairman of the Yesha Council voiced his determination and resolve. He said, “Another terrorist shooting attack has occurred, and Israeli citizens were injured. The State of Israel must never accept or become accustomed to this reality. We are facing not just isolated incidents, but a terrorist infrastructure that seeks to harm all citizens of the State of Israel. We demand that the safety of our residents be made a top priority by our security establishment and government.”

Ne’eman continued, “Our immediate response should be to deal firmly with terrorists, reintroduce checkpoints, and continue the operation to collect weapons until the PA’s stockpile of weapons is emptied.”

Highlighting the heroic actions of the off-duty officer, Ne’eman lauded him for his quick actions that undoubtedly saved lives and prevented further harm. He concluded, “We heap praise on the off-duty border policeman who quickly neutralized the terrorist, thereby preventing even greater carnage and saving many lives. As we offer our gratitude, we also pray for a speedy recovery for those who were wounded.”

In the face of such adversity, the tenacity and resilience of the Israeli people shine. Time and again, the citizens of Israel demonstrate their unyielding resolve to protect their homeland and each other, fostering a sense of unity that can’t be shaken by external threats. It is this strength and solidarity that propels the State of Israel forward, a beacon of democratic values and human resilience in the Middle East, and a testament to the enduring spirit of its people.
