Israeli Boxer Wins After Tense Pre-Fight Confrontation With Turkish Opponent

What began with a heated confrontation ended with a decisive Israeli victory.

Israeli Muay Thai fighter Ahavat Hashem Gordon defeated Turkish opponent Ali Konyuncu on Saturday night in Kaunas, Lithuania, capping off a dramatic 48 hours that saw tensions spill beyond the ring before order was restored inside it.

The match concluded in the second round after Gordon delivered a powerful strike to Konyuncu’s head, sending him to the canvas. With Konyuncu bleeding heavily and unable to continue, officials stopped the fight and awarded Gordon the win.

The bout followed an explosive weigh-in the day before. Gordon arrived draped in an Israeli flag, standing confidently during the traditional face-off. As the fighters exchanged words, the confrontation escalated when Konyuncu lunged toward Gordon’s neck. Security personnel rushed in, restraining both men as they struggled to break free.

Video of the altercation quickly circulated online. Despite being held back, Konyuncu managed to land a kick to Gordon’s midsection before officials restored order.

When the fighters finally met in the ring, the first round unfolded without a clear advantage. Both competitors tested each other, unable to land a decisive combination.

In the second round, Konyuncu briefly gained momentum with an uppercut. But Gordon answered swiftly. Seizing his moment, he unleashed a powerful blow to the head that dropped his opponent. Moments later, the referee halted the fight.

No further rounds were needed.

Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister Miki Zohar praised the victory, calling it “another brilliant victory for our Israeli fighter.”

For Gordon, the win carried meaning beyond the scorecard. In an atmosphere charged with emotion, he kept his focus where it belonged inside the ring.
