Argentina to Open Embassy in Jerusalem Next Spring

President Milei and Israel’s Foreign Minister Sa’ar agree to shift Argentina’s diplomatic mission to Jerusalem by spring 2026.

In a historic diplomatic step, Argentina’s President Javier Milei and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced that Buenos Aires will relocate Argentina’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem in the spring of 2026.

During their meeting in Buenos Aires, Sa’ar described the move as a reaffirmation of Argentina’s long‑term commitment to Israel. Meanwhile, Argentine officials confirmed that President Milei will travel to Israel to inaugurate the embassy during his next visit most likely between April and May next year.

The commitment underscores a sharp shift in Argentine foreign policy under Milei one aligning Argentina with nations that formally recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

At the meeting, the two sides also discussed expanding political, economic, and security cooperation. Sa’ar emphasized shared concerns about regional threats, including designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist group.

For Israel, the move signals deeper support from Latin America. For Argentina’s Jewish community and worldwide advocates of Israel, the decision reflects shared democratic values and a strengthening of diplomatic ties.
