Argentina to Move Embassy to Jerusalem in 2026

President Milei delivers historic address in Israel, pledging unwavering support and strengthening bilateral ties.

In a powerful and deeply symbolic address to Israel’s Knesset, Argentine President Javier Milei announced that Argentina will relocate its embassy to Jerusalem in 2026, solidifying his country’s growing alliance with the Jewish state. The move will place Argentina alongside a select group of nations that officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

“I am proud to announce before you that in 2026 we will make effective the move of our embassy to the city of west Jerusalem,” Milei declared, receiving widespread praise from Israeli leaders.

Milei’s visit, his second to Israel since taking office in December, reflects his government’s strong pro-Israel stance at a time when much of the international community continues to pressure Jerusalem. “Argentina stands by you in these difficult days,” Milei stated. “Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about a large part of the international community that is being manipulated by terrorists and turning victims into perpetrators.”

He condemned Hamas’s continued holding of hostages in Gaza following the October 7, 2023 massacre the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust and decried the global silence over their plight. “When both sides are good and evil, there is no moral equality here,” Milei said.

During his visit, Milei met with families of hostages still held in Gaza, including relatives of Argentine nationals kidnapped by Hamas. Twenty-seven Argentine citizens were murdered during the October 7 attacks, and 21 were taken hostage. Four Argentines remain in captivity: Eitan Horn, Ariel Cunio, David Cunio, and Lior Rudaeff.

Milei also directly challenged international figures critical of Israel, including climate activist Greta Thunberg, who recently attempted to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza. “She became a hired gun for a bit of media attention, claiming that she was kidnapped when there are really hostages in subhuman conditions in Gaza,” he stated.

Israeli leaders warmly welcomed Milei’s historic announcement and his passionate defense of Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pausing his court proceedings to meet the Argentine president, called Milei “a true friend.” “For 20 months, we have been fighting human monsters,” Netanyahu said. “You said clearly ‘We stand with you in the fight against the forces of darkness.’”

Israeli President Isaac Herzog also praised Milei, stating, “During your presidency, our relations have reached new heights – and will continue to rise. You love Israel – and we love you.”

Milei’s visit was briefly interrupted by an air raid triggered by a rocket fired from Yemen by the Iran-backed Houthi terrorist group, forcing him and millions of Israelis into shelters. Reflecting on the experience, Milei wrote on social media, “I strongly recommend that when you react to what happens in Israel, remember what it’s like to live in this situation.”

As part of his growing partnership with Israel, Milei also announced plans to establish direct flights between Buenos Aires and Tel Aviv, restoring a route that has been dormant since 1960. This new air link would not only deepen bilateral ties but also symbolize a new era of friendship.

Once completed, the embassy move will align Argentina with the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Paraguay, and Papua New Guinea countries that have officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Milei’s strong, principled stand reflects the growing circle of nations that proudly stand with Israel as it confronts terrorism and defends its sovereignty. Share this story or subscribe to our newsletter to stay updated on Israel’s global partnerships.
