Argentina’s Defense Minister Visits Israel to Enhance Security Cooperation
Defense Minister Luis Petri visits Israel to modernize Argentina’s defense systems and strengthen ties.
Argentinian Defense Minister Luis Petri arrived in Israel on Wednesday to advance cooperation on modernizing Argentina’s defense systems and strengthening bilateral security ties. The visit underscores growing collaboration between the two countries in technology, defense, and national security.
During his stay, Petri will engage in negotiations to acquire advanced Israeli defense technologies and promote knowledge transfer in the security sector. High-level meetings with Defense Minister Israel Katz and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar are expected to focus on joint research and development in artificial intelligence for national security applications. Petri will also meet with the families of victims and hostages from the October 7 Hamas attacks and Argentinian soldiers living in Israel.
The visit builds on a historic memorandum of understanding signed recently between Argentina and Israel, emphasizing their shared commitment to freedom, democracy, and combating dictatorships. Argentina’s Ambassador to Israel, Rabbi Shimon Axel Wahnish, played a key role in coordinating the delegation.
President Javier Milei has prioritized strengthening Argentina’s ties with Israel. In September, Milei met with Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana in Buenos Aires to discuss regional security issues, including the plight of hostages held by Hamas and rising tensions with Hezbollah. The defense minister’s visit reflects Milei’s commitment to deepening this partnership as Argentina seeks to modernize its defense capabilities.
Petri’s visit highlights the importance of Argentina-Israel relations in building a secure and innovative future. By leveraging Israel’s expertise in defense and technology, Argentina aims to bolster its national security and foster a stronger alliance.
