Ashkelon Blaze Hospitalizes Eleven Residents, Among Them Two Children

Blaze breaks out in nine-story residential building; woman and toddlers in moderate condition.

A fire broke out early Tuesday in a nine-story residential building on Konditon Street in Ashkelon, leaving eleven people hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, according to Magen David Adom (MDA).

Among those injured were a 34-year-old woman and two children around three years old, all listed in moderate condition. Eight others were lightly affected by smoke and transported to Barzilai Hospital for treatment.

Emergency medical teams responded quickly to the scene, assisting firefighters in evacuating residents and providing medical care.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Tuesday’s fire comes amid heightened weather-related risks across southern Israel. Just last month, Ashkelon firefighters rescued eight civilians trapped in floodwaters after heavy rains battered the region.

With Storm Byron nearing its peak, authorities have issued flood warnings for the coastal plain, Negev, Judean Desert, and the Dead Sea area. Strong winds are expected to persist along the coast and in mountainous zones throughout the day. Share this article or subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
