Likud's Avi Slama Wins Netanya Mayoral Election
After 27 years under Miriam Feirberg-Ikar, the coastal city enters a new era with Slama promising modernization and unity.

In a historic shift for the coastal city of Netanya, Likud candidate Avi Slama has won the special mayoral election, marking the end of a nearly three-decade chapter led by the late Miriam Feirberg-Ikar.
Slama, 43, secured a first-round victory on Tuesday, defeating three other candidates to become the city's next mayor. The special election was held following the passing of Feirberg-Ikar, who had served as mayor for 27 years and was widely respected for her deep dedication to the city.
In his victory speech, Slama honored his predecessor: “This year, Netanya said goodbye to a giant. Miriam Feirberg-Ikar, who dedicated her life to this city and, for nearly three decades, was its beating heart. I take on this role with great respect, with the intention of leading Netanya to national achievements and bringing the new spirit and changes that time requires.”
Speaking to a crowd of energized supporters, Slama offered heartfelt thanks to his family, campaign staff, and volunteers. “This victory is not mine. It’s yours. It’s for the city of Netanya,” he said, emphasizing a message of collective achievement.
Addressing the residents, he added, “I thank the residents of Netanya for placing their trust in me. I promise to be the mayor of everyone, for those who voted for me and for those who didn’t. Together, we will make Netanya a better place to live.”
Slama enters office with a background as an economist and former senior banking executive. He has served as a prominent city council member and opposition leader, building a platform centered on modernization and service reform. His campaign focused on upgrading municipal systems, improving transportation infrastructure, enhancing personal security, and expanding educational investment.
“Netanya is a gem, but it’s time to polish it with the tools of the 21st century,” Slama said, vowing to bring innovation and renewed energy to a city poised for its next chapter.
With this victory, Slama becomes the face of a generational change in one of Israel’s most prominent coastal cities promising leadership that honors the past while shaping the future.
