Azerbaijan Foils ISIS-K Terror Plot Against Israeli Embassy
Coordinated intelligence effort halts planned attack as Israel-Azerbaijan ties continue to strengthen.

Azerbaijani security forces have thwarted a chilling terror plot targeting the Israeli Embassy in Baku, authorities revealed this week. A detailed intelligence operation led to the arrest of three men linked to the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K), who had advanced plans to strike Israel’s diplomatic mission.
According to Azerbaijan’s State Security Service, the suspects were operating under direct guidance from ISIS-K operatives. Armed and ready, they had set their sights on launching a religiously motivated attack. Their capture, officials said, was the result of a “special and sensitive” intelligence campaign timed to prevent a potential tragedy.
The names of the suspects were released, and authorities confirmed they had obtained weapons and coordinated explicitly to target a foreign diplomatic mission. Israeli and Azerbaijani security cooperation played a pivotal role in identifying and stopping the plot before it could be executed.
The attempted attack comes at a time of growing diplomatic and strategic ties between Israel and Azerbaijan. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar arrived in Baku this week on a state visit, accompanied by a delegation focused on expanding bilateral trade and defense partnerships.
While in Baku, Sa’ar held high-level meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. He also visited with leaders of Azerbaijan’s vibrant Jewish community, a historic population that numbers between 16,000 and 30,000.
The security threat highlights the ongoing dangers posed by global jihadist groups targeting Israeli personnel and assets abroad. It also underscores the importance of deep intelligence collaboration between nations willing to stand together against extremism.
Azerbaijan’s swift and effective action sends a strong message: terror will not find a foothold in Baku, and the Israeli-Azerbaijani partnership remains unshaken.
