Operations Resume at Bazan Refinery After Iranian Attack

Company expects full recovery by fall and seeks compensation for wartime damages.

Haifa’s Bazan oil refinery has resumed partial operations following the devastating Iranian missile strike during Operation Rising Lion, which killed three employees and forced a complete shutdown of one of Israel’s most strategic energy assets.

On Sunday night, Bazan reported to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange that it had restarted activities at its refining and downstream facilities, marking a cautious but significant step toward full recovery. The company confirmed that complete restoration will be possible only after new steam facilities are installed an effort expected to conclude between September and October.

"The company has developed a systematic work plan and has begun implementing it to gradually restore all operations," Bazan said in a statement. The resumption of activity comes amid tight safety protocols and ongoing assessments to ensure compliance with environmental and operational standards.

Bazan emphasized the complexity of restarting after such an abrupt and externally caused halt, noting that operational flexibility, precision, and regulatory adherence are essential to safely bringing the facility back online.

The company also confirmed that it is working with Israel’s property tax and compensation fund to seek advances for direct damages. It further assured shareholders of its stability, highlighting insurance coverage of up to $250 million against indirect damages and profit losses resulting from terrorism and war.

Bazan’s resilience under pressure underscores the strategic importance of Israeli industry in the face of hostile aggression. Its return to operations not only restores vital domestic energy infrastructure but also symbolizes Israel’s ability to rebound swiftly in the wake of attacks designed to cripple its economy.
