Birthright Israel Marks 25 Years of Impact

Birthright Israel is celebrating its 25th anniversary with renewed vigor, bringing thousands of young Jews to experience the country’s rich heritage while supporting Israel’s recovery efforts. This winter alone, approximately 6,500 participants are set to arrive, engaging in a variety of programs that contribute to the rejuvenation of Israel’s tourism and local communities.

Since November 2023, Birthright tours have included elements reflecting Israel’s resilience in the face of recent challenges. Participants visit “Hostage Square,” tour communities near the Gaza border, volunteer in critical initiatives, and meet survivors of the Oct. 7 attacks. These experiences allow participants to connect deeply with Israel’s current reality while fostering solidarity and hope.

Looking ahead, the organization plans to welcome 10,000 volunteers in 2025, many of whom are Birthright alumni. These volunteers will assist in rebuilding Gaza border kibbutzim and northern communities, helping residents who are returning to rebuild their homes and lives. This initiative builds on programs launched in late 2023 that brought 8,500 volunteers to Israel, and Birthright has expanded its age eligibility for these opportunities to 50, responding to widespread enthusiasm.

Since its inception, Birthright has had a transformative impact on the Israeli economy, contributing an estimated 8.5 billion shekels. Covering costs such as flights, accommodations, attractions, and dining, the program generates a fourfold return on every government dollar invested, directly benefiting countless sectors.

For 25 years, Birthright Israel has strengthened the bond between the Jewish diaspora and the homeland. As it enters its next chapter, the organization’s commitment to fostering connection and supporting Israel’s recovery ensures its enduring legacy.
