Israeli Forces Defuse Car Bomb Outside Community in Samaria
Terrorist Plot Thwarted by Israeli Security Forces in Ateret.
Israeli security forces successfully neutralized a car bomb on Monday morning outside the entrance to the Jewish community of Ateret, located in the Binyamin region of Samaria. The incident, which could have resulted in significant casualties, was averted thanks to the swift actions of police and military sappers.
The suspicious vehicle, discovered near the community's entrance, was found to contain two large gas tanks connected to an operational mechanism. Using a robot, the sappers safely inspected and defused the bomb, preventing a potential disaster. No injuries were reported, and the threat was eliminated without further incident.
Yisrael Ganz, the head of the Binyamin Regional Council, described the incident as a "great miracle," underscoring the severity of the threat and the importance of remaining vigilant. Ganz called for robust military action in Judea and Samaria, similar to operations in Gaza, to dismantle terrorist infrastructures. "The terrorism in Judea and Samaria requires military action just like in Gaza and Rafah," he stated, advocating for decisive measures against terrorist activities in the region.
In response to the incident, the Binyamin connector road was temporarily closed to traffic as a precautionary measure.
This attempted car bombing follows a series of violent attacks over the weekend. On Sunday morning, three Israeli police officers were tragically killed in a drive-by shooting near the Tarqumiya checkpoint, northwest of Hebron in Judea. The assailant, reportedly a member of Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas's "Presidential Guard," targeted the officers in a brutal attack that has further heightened tensions in the area.
Additionally, on Saturday, an IDF soldier, Staff Sgt. Elkana Navon, 20, from Petach Tikvah, was killed, and three others were wounded during clashes with Hamas terrorists in Jenin, located in northern Samaria. The Hamas terrorist group also praised a "double heroic operation" the previous day, where car bombers wounded three Israelis in the Gush Etzion region of Judea.
These incidents highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by Israel, particularly in the volatile regions of Judea and Samaria.
