Danon: Waltz’s Visit Underscores U.S. Commitment to Israel’s Security

UN Ambassador’s first trip abroad includes Israel and Jordan, focusing on regional threats and hostage crisis.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz’s decision to make Israel and Jordan his first overseas destinations sends a clear message about Washington’s focus on Middle East stability, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon.

“This is significant,” Danon said. “It signals Washington’s commitment to understanding the region’s complex security issues firsthand.”

Danon coordinated with Waltz’s delegation during visits to sensitive border areas, including near Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, emphasizing the scale of threats facing Israel from Hezbollah and Hamas. “It was important for him to see the real threats Israel is facing,” Danon stated.

Waltz, a former U.S. military officer, met with Israeli military officials and civilians, including the family of Ran Gvili, the last Israeli hostage in Gaza. The emotional meeting underscored the human toll of the conflict and the urgency of the ongoing hostage crisis.

“Ambassador Waltz connected deeply with the family. This is not just a political issue it’s deeply personal,” Danon said.

Waltz has already made a strong impression at the UN Security Council, Danon noted, crediting the ambassador’s military background for his “principled stance” and assertive support for Israel amid mounting global criticism.

Both diplomats emphasized that Hamas must be excluded from any future governance structure in Gaza. “There is no room for ambiguity,” said Danon. “We must act decisively to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure.”

Waltz also reiterated support for the return of all hostages and insisted humanitarian concerns must remain central to discussions on Gaza’s future. Meanwhile, Danon stressed that broader regional progress, including peace initiatives, will only be possible once all hostages are released.

Referring to the Trump administration’s peace plan, Danon stated, “Section 5 of the plan clearly states that once all hostages are released, that will signal the beginning of the next phase. We are committed to that outcome.”

Regarding threats from Lebanon, Danon warned that Israel “cannot afford the mistakes of the past” and is prepared to take action if Hezbollah’s activities escalate further. “We are prepared to do what is needed to ensure our security,” he said.
