Deni Avdija to Lead Israel at EuroBasket 2025
NBA star returns as blue-and-white prepares for major tournament amid national challenges.

The Israeli National Basketball Team is gearing up for a summer of pride and purpose as it prepares for EuroBasket 2025. Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija headlines a 20-player roster announced Sunday by head coach Ariel Beit Halachmi. This marks Avdija’s return to the national team for the first time since EuroBasket 2022.
Joining Avdija is former Indiana Pacers forward T.J. Leaf, whose registration status is under review due to his Israeli roots and youth national team history. Leaf, born in Israel, may be listed as a non-naturalized player, giving Israel a significant advantage in roster flexibility.
The roster also includes Roi Huber, Eitan Burg, Guy Palatin, and Gur Lavi—all of whom contributed during the qualifiers. Forward Nimrod Levi makes a long-awaited return after recovering from a serious injury that kept him off the court for nearly 18 months.
Notably absent is Maccabi Tel Aviv's point guard Tamir Blatt, who did not appear in several recent team windows and was left out of the current lineup.
“We are excited about the important summer ahead of us, especially in the complex situation our country finds itself in,” said Coach Beit Halachmi. “Representing Israel internationally is a great privilege, and we are committed to giving everything we have for this cause.”
Israel will compete in Group D, facing off against France, Slovenia, Iceland, Belgium, and host nation Poland. Group matches will take place in Katowice, while other games will unfold in Limassol, Tampere, and Riga. The top four teams from each group will advance to the knockout stages.
The team’s preparation begins July 20, continuing a development plan launched more than two years ago. While some notable names were left out, Beit Halachmi stressed the importance of team cohesion and choosing the right mix to maximize performance.
This summer’s EuroBasket campaign offers more than just a shot at basketball glory. It’s a chance for Israel to shine on the European stage, to showcase its talent and determination, and to unify the nation through sport.
