Fallen Hostage Dror Or Returned to Israel

After years of anguish, the body of Dror Or comes home a painful moment of closure and renewed resolve.

On Tuesday evening, the remains of a man taken hostage during the October 7 assault on Israel were returned to Israeli soil. The body was officially identified by the national forensic authorities as belonging to 48‑year‑old Dror Or of Kibbutz Be'eri. This confirmation brought a moment of stern closure to his family and community, still reeling from the tragedy.

According to statements from the government and military, Dror was abducted from his home in Be’eri during the October 7, 2023 attack. His body was taken to Gaza, where he was murdered a fate now formally confirmed.

After completion of the forensic identification, representatives of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) informed the Or family that their loved one had been returned and identified. The government expressed its sorrow and reaffirmed its commitment to recovering the remains of all fallen hostages still in Gaza.

For the community of Be’eri, this return meant that for the first time since the massacre there are no residents still listed among the hostages held in captivity. Friends and neighbors recalled Dror as a devoted father, a beloved cheesemaker at the Be’eri dairy, and a kind‑hearted man with gentle humor and deep sensitivity.

The tragic story of Dror and his wife who died in the attack reminds us of the human cost of terror and war. This moment also underscores a solemn promise: the Israeli people will not rest until every hostage, every victim, is returned home for a proper burial.

In Israel’s darkest hours, the memory of the fallen and the hope for full return remain unbroken.
