Ecuador Inaugurates Diplomatic Tech Office in Jerusalem
President Noboa’s visit marks a historic deepening of Israel-Ecuador ties and a bold recognition of Jerusalem’s centrality.

In a landmark move underscoring growing international recognition of Jerusalem, Ecuador has officially opened a diplomatic-level Innovation Research and Development Center in Israel’s capital. The announcement was made during Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa’s first official visit to the Jewish state, where he was warmly received by Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Sunday.
“This is a huge step forward, and we are grateful,” Herzog said during the ceremonial meeting, hailing Noboa as “a great friend” of Israel. The opening of the diplomatic tech office marks a significant gesture of support for Israeli sovereignty and innovation leadership.
President Noboa emphasized Ecuador’s admiration for Israel’s achievements and its unwavering stance in the fight against terrorism. “Peace must sometimes be attained through strength,” he stated, adding that Ecuador deeply values Israeli expertise in both defense and technology.
The visit also highlighted shared humanitarian and moral concerns, as both leaders issued a unified call for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. “We cannot have a situation like this in the 21st century,” Noboa said, echoing global outrage over the ongoing hostage crisis.
Noboa’s delegation included Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld, Defense Minister Gian Carlo Loffredo, and Interior Minister Mónica Palencia signaling the importance Ecuador places on this partnership. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar welcomed the delegation, thanking Noboa for “strengthening ties with the Jewish state” and for standing as “a true friend of Israel.”
The new center in Jerusalem will operate with full diplomatic status, allowing Ecuador to deepen cooperation with Israeli institutions, particularly in the fields of cybersecurity, medical innovation, agriculture, and smart infrastructure.
As more nations recognize the strategic and historical importance of Jerusalem, Ecuador’s move sends a clear message: Israel is not alone. The bond between the two democracies continues to grow stronger, rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and a vision for peace through progress.
