BGU to Present Ben-Gurion Award to Dr. Esther Luzzatto

Renowned entrepreneur and activist honored for advancing the Negev, Israeli innovation, and women in science.

Ben-Gurion University of the Negev has announced that Dr. Esther Luzzatto will be one of six distinguished recipients of this year’s prestigious Ben-Gurion Award an honor reserved for those who have profoundly impacted Israeli society through vision, leadership, and dedication to national development.

The award will be presented on November 26, 2025, commemorating the anniversary of David Ben-Gurion’s passing. Dr. Luzzatto, a chemist, CEO, and influential public figure, has dedicated over four decades to promoting social progress and economic growth in Israel, particularly in the Negev.

As CEO of the Luzzatto Group and a prominent patent attorney, Dr. Luzzatto’s professional success is only one facet of her legacy. Her voluntary public service has left an indelible mark across multiple sectors from defense and regional development to gender equality and support for vulnerable populations.

Among her notable achievements, she chairs Israel for the Negev, an organization instrumental in relocating IDF intelligence units to the Negev a bold initiative that faced resistance but ultimately strengthened the region’s strategic importance. She also leads Yachdav, a nonprofit delivering vital community services to at-risk youth, recovering addicts, individuals with disabilities, and survivors of sexual violence.

An advocate for gender equality, Dr. Luzzatto has pushed relentlessly to elevate women in science and technology. As chair of the Council for the Advancement of Women in Science and Technology, she’s worked to break barriers and shape a more inclusive future in Israel’s most dynamic industries.

Her involvement extends to cultural and educational causes as well. Dr. Luzzatto plays active roles in organizations such as the Ayalim Association, the Menachem Begin Heritage Center Foundation, and the Friends Associations of both the Beersheba Theater and the Be’er Sheva Sinfonietta.

In announcing the award, the prize committee praised her as a “model of values-based leadership,” highlighting her role in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and social equity. “Her extensive work over the years positions her as one of the leading contributors to the development of Israeli society and its economy.”

Dr. Luzzatto responded with gratitude, noting that the recognition belongs not only to her, but to the many citizens working tirelessly across the Negev and Galilee. “This award is a national expression of gratitude for their vital work,” she said, pointing to the grassroots efforts driving prosperity and unity across Israel’s diverse regions.

Dr. Esther Luzzatto’s story is a testament to the power of individual initiative and national commitment. Through science, activism, and leadership, she has brought lasting change to the Negev and beyond embodying the spirit of David Ben-Gurion himself.
