Senator Fetterman calls out hypocrisy in genocide protests

The Pennsylvania senator questions why activists ignore atrocities in Sudan while targeting Israel.

Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.), one of Israel’s strongest supporters in Congress, has been the frequent target of anti-Israel protesters accusing him of backing a "genocide" in Gaza. But when the U.S. officially declared a genocide in Sudan, Fetterman noticed something strange:

No protests. No roadblocks. No outrage.

On social media, Fetterman called out the double standard, writing:

“Zero dopes have shown up at my home or office, or blocked a road to chant and protest over an actual genocide in Sudan. South Africa engaged the International Court of Justice over Gaza, but not for an actual genocide on their own continent? Why is that?”

His comments come after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Jan. 7 that Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had committed genocide against civilians. The U.S. is now sanctioning RSF leader Mohammad Hamdan Daglo Mousa ("Hemedti") and seven RSF-linked companies.

Despite the widespread atrocities in Sudan, activists and international bodies have largely ignored the crisis. South Africa, which took Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its military operations in Gaza, has not pursued legal action against the actual genocide happening on its own continent.

Blinken made clear that both warring factions in Sudan are responsible for mass violence and suffering, stating:

“The United States does not support either side of this war… Both belligerents bear responsibility for the violence and suffering in Sudan and lack the legitimacy to govern a future peaceful Sudan.”

Fetterman’s remarks highlight a glaring inconsistency in global activism, where Israel is singled out while brutal conflicts elsewhere receive little attention. His challenge raises a serious question:

Why do activists ignore real genocide while falsely accusing Israel?
