Former Hostage Joins IDF in Inspired Service Commitment

Noga Weiss, recently freed from Hamas captivity, embarks on a new journey with the Israel Defense Forces.

In a poignant turn of events, Noga Weiss, an 18-year-old who was recently held hostage by Hamas, has enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Her induction took place at a recruitment center in Ramat Gan, marking a new chapter in her life after enduring 50 days of captivity during the conflict that began on October 7.

Weiss, alongside her mother, Shiri, was abducted from Kibbutz Be’eri and subsequently released on November 25 during a temporary ceasefire. Despite the tragic loss of her father, Ilan, who was killed on the same day while responding to the emergency with the kibbutz’s defense team, Weiss's resolve to serve her country has only strengthened.

Opting to serve as a mashakit tash, a noncommissioned officer responsible for the social welfare of soldiers, Weiss sees her new role in the IDF as not only a fulfillment of a long-held ambition but also as a means of giving back and supporting her fellow soldiers. "After a very turbulent period, I feel that enlisting in the army to the position of a mashakit tash is the right thing for me," Weiss stated. Her role will focus on enhancing the well-being and morale of the troops, an area where she feels she can make a significant impact.

Her decision to join the IDF also stems from a deep personal experience. Upon her release, the sight of IDF soldiers waiting for her and her mother provided a profound sense of security and further solidified her desire to be part of the forces that had made her feel safe in such a critical moment.

Weiss's story is not just about overcoming adversity; it's about transforming personal hardship into an opportunity to serve and protect others. Her courage and determination to proceed with life as planned, despite the harrowing experiences, are inspiring.

This brave young woman's journey from hostage to defender is a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. If you are moved by Noga Weiss’s remarkable story of courage and commitment, consider sharing her story or subscribing for more such inspiring content.
