France Reports Medical Supplies Reached Hostages in Gaza
Joint initiative by France and Qatar may have provided crucial aid to captives.
Medical supplies sent to Gaza for hostages in early 2024 have reportedly reached their intended recipients, according to a French diplomatic source. This revelation comes after months of uncertainty surrounding the fate of the aid, which was organized by France and Qatar.
The initiative, carried out in coordination with the Hostage and Missing Families Forum, saw supplies delivered in November 2023, just weeks after the October 7 Hamas attack. While tracing the supplies’ exact distribution remains challenging, testimony from recently freed hostages suggests they received some medical treatment during their captivity.
“Reports suggest that recently released hostages from Hamas captivity acknowledged receiving some medical treatments during their imprisonment,” the French source stated. “This indicates that the operation was not in vain.”
The joint effort involved complex logistics, with the shipment traveling through European countries, into Egypt, and finally into Gaza via the Red Crescent. Families of the hostages played a key role, working alongside figures such as Dr. Meir Zusman and Dan Sobovich, as well as David Meidan, who coordinated the release of Gilad Shalit in 2011.
Despite these efforts, definitive confirmation that the supplies directly reached all hostages remains elusive. Some of the aid was discovered by IDF forces at a hospital in Khan Yunis, but families are still awaiting full transparency on its impact.
Notably, the Israeli government was not informed about this operation, which underscores the collaborative efforts of international partners and the families of captives in the absence of official state involvement.
The operation highlights the global commitment to supporting innocent lives caught in conflict. Share this article or subscribe to our newsletter for updates to shed light on the ongoing plight of hostages and the tireless work being done to aid them.
