60% of Hamas Fighters in Gaza Killed or Injured, Says Gallant

Defense Minister Gallant outlines significant IDF achievements against Hamas.

In a significant update from the front lines, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that Israeli forces have killed or wounded 60% of Hamas's combatants since the conflict began on October 7. This milestone reflects the ongoing efforts of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) to dismantle the terrorist organization entrenched in Gaza.

Speaking at the Knesset in Jerusalem, Gallant highlighted the dismantling of most of Hamas's Al-Qassam Brigades’ 24 battalions. He praised the IDF's operations, which have resulted in over 14,000 terrorists being neutralized. “The action of the IDF that has so far led to the elimination of over 14,000 terrorists and the collapse of the military frameworks of Hamas is, in fact, the testimony of what I am saying—everything will be done in accordance with the law and in accordance with the operational need,” Gallant stated.

The conflict escalated following the brutal invasion of the northwestern Negev by Hamas on October 7, resulting in numerous casualties and kidnappings. In response, Israel launched an immediate air campaign against Hamas targets, followed by a ground invasion on October 27.

The War Cabinet has outlined clear objectives: dismantle Hamas as a military and governing entity, secure the release of hostages, and ensure that Gaza can never again pose a threat to Israel.

Gallant emphasized the importance of maintaining international legitimacy and preventing a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. As part of these efforts, Israel has restored electricity to a Gaza desalination plant to mitigate potential disease outbreaks that could threaten both Israeli forces and civilians.

Tragically, the conflict has also claimed the lives of many Israeli soldiers. Recently, Sgt. First Class Tal Lahat, 21, from the Maglan commando unit, was killed in combat, bringing the total number of Israeli military casualties since October 27 to 325, and 681 since the start of the war.

The IDF continues its offensive across Gaza, targeting terrorist strongholds and dismantling Hamas infrastructure. In Gaza City, troops have raided the UNRWA headquarters, eliminating terrorists and seizing weapons. Operations in Shejaiya, Tel al-Hawa, and Rafah have also resulted in the deaths of dozens of terrorists and the destruction of significant militant infrastructure.

Israeli forces remain committed to their mission, pressing forward to ensure the safety and security of Israel and its citizens. The dedication and bravery of the IDF in these efforts continue to reflect the resilience and determination of the Israeli people.
