Gilad Erdan Bids Farewell to UN Ambassador Role, Praises Israel's Morality

Celebrated for defending Israel’s moral standing on the global stage.

Gilad Erdan, Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, concluded his four-year tenure with a farewell ceremony held in Manhattan. Organized by Israel’s U.N. delegation and the UJA-Federation of New York, the event was attended by hundreds, including ambassadors, Jewish organization leaders, New York Mayor Eric Adams, and Rep. Richie Torres (D-N.Y.).

Erdan, who has been a steadfast defender of Israel at the U.N., reflected on his experience. "Many times I have been asked how I can come to work every day in a place where there is so much hatred and hypocrisy against Israel," Erdan said. "My answer is simple: It is easy to defend Israel because if you know the truth and believe in it, you hold your head up proudly even in the face of continuous criticism and attacks." He emphasized, "I know the good that I represent—the most moral country in the world, Israel."

Throughout his tenure, Erdan actively raised awareness of the threats posed by Hamas and highlighted the atrocities committed by the terrorist organization against Israelis, especially the events of October 7. He has also been vocal about the ongoing threat from Iran and its proxies, warning that these groups continue to pose significant risks to Israel from all directions.

Erdan criticized the U.N. for its perceived silence on Iran's aggressive stance toward Israel. "Even today, when Iran openly threatens to ‘punish’ Israel, the U.N. is silent. Iran interprets the silence of the world and the U.N. as giving a green light to attack Israel," he stated, drawing a historical parallel to the world's silence during the Wannsee Conference in 1942, which laid the groundwork for the Holocaust.

New York Mayor Eric Adams expressed his gratitude to Erdan for his unwavering dedication, stating, "I thank you for the inspiration you gave me every time we met, every time we stood by each other and every time we fought together." Rep. Richie Torres praised Erdan’s legacy, saying, "Gilad, you have been a warrior for your people in the moment of their greatest need. I join everyone here in saluting the legacy you leave behind."

Erdan’s tenure as U.N. ambassador has been marked by his firm commitment to defending Israel's interests and highlighting the nation’s moral integrity on the international stage. His departure leaves a significant legacy of advocacy and diplomacy.
