IDF Successfully Eliminates Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar, Group Confirms
Despite loss of leadership, Hamas insists its movement will endure.
Hamas has confirmed that its top leader, Yahya Sinwar, was killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in an unplanned operation earlier this week. The confirmation came from Basem Naim, head of the terror organization’s political bureau, on Friday, as reported by Israeli media. Naim acknowledged Sinwar’s death but insisted that Hamas grows stronger with each elimination of its leaders.
“Hamas becomes stronger and more popular with each elimination of its leaders,” Naim said, adding, “It hurts to lose people, especially unique leaders like Yahya Sinwar, but we are sure we will win in the end.”
Naim also dismissed the notion that killing Hamas leadership would weaken the organization or end the Palestinian struggle. “Israel seems to believe that killing our leaders means the end of our movement and the struggle of the Palestinian people. They can believe what they want,” he said.
The IDF confirmed Sinwar’s death shortly before Hamas did. Sinwar, killed in the Tel Sultan neighborhood of Rafah, was identified through dental and fingerprint records, which Israel had on file from his time in Israeli prisons before his release in 2011. The IDF has indicated that no hostages were killed during the operation.
Sinwar, a significant figure within Hamas, was instrumental in orchestrating attacks and the overall strategy of the group. His death marks a major blow to Hamas leadership, although the organization maintains that it will continue its fight.
