Hamas to Release American-Israeli Hostage Edan Alexander and Four Bodies

Terror group signals willingness for negotiations as Israel pushes for more hostages.

Hamas has announced that it will release American-Israeli hostage Edan Alexander along with the bodies of four deceased American hostages Omer Neutra, Itay Chen, Gadi Haggai, and Judy Weinstein Haggai. The statement comes amid ongoing ceasefire negotiations mediated by the United States.

The terrorist organization claimed to have received a new proposal for the second phase of a ceasefire and hostage deal from American mediators and responded positively. However, differences remain between Hamas’ offer and the American proposal. While Hamas has agreed to release Alexander and the deceased hostages, Israel has insisted on increasing the number of living hostages freed to at least eight.

In response to the latest developments, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold urgent security consultations. Meanwhile, US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff has been actively involved in the negotiations, presenting an updated American proposal in Doha on Wednesday. The plan discussed by Witkoff reportedly included the release of five living hostages and several deceased captives in exchange for a temporary ceasefire extension in Gaza.

This latest announcement also follows reports that the Trump administration had engaged in unprecedented direct negotiations with Hamas regarding the release of American hostages and broader efforts to end the war. The talks, led by Adam Boehler, former US President Donald Trump’s envoy for hostages, marked a significant shift, as the US has historically refused to engage directly with Hamas.

Currently, five American citizens remain in Hamas captivity, with four confirmed deceased. Edan Alexander, 21, is believed to be alive. Israel continues to push for the return of all remaining hostages while maintaining pressure on Hamas through military and diplomatic efforts.
