Freed Hostages to Receive Full Scholarships from Hebrew University
Program to support former captives with tuition, counseling, and career assistance.
The Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced on Sunday that it will provide full scholarships to freed hostages, covering tuition for a three-year degree in any field of study.
The program will also include:
Personalized academic support
Psychological assistance
Career counseling
Additionally, funds will be set aside for the children of former hostages to ensure their future university education.
"We believe in the transformative power of higher education," said Prof. Tamir Shefer, the university’s rector. "This program will help former hostages rebuild a hopeful future and provide a solid foundation for their long rehabilitation journey."
Since the October 7 Hamas attack, which saw 251 people abducted, Israel has worked tirelessly to secure their release. So far, seven women have been freed in recent weeks, and a total of 33 hostages are set for release in the first phase of an agreement.
However, 87 hostages remain in Gaza, including the bodies of 37 individuals confirmed dead by the IDF.
Since the start of the war, Hebrew University has expanded its support for students affected by the conflict, including:
Tutoring and flexible class schedules for those returning from IDF service.
Financial assistance for students displaced by the war.
With this new initiative, Israel’s leading academic institution continues to demonstrate its commitment to resilience, recovery, and education.
