Jewish Argentine Sportscaster Rejoices On-Air as Hostages Return From Gaza
Hernán Feller, nephew of a freed captive, delivers emotional tribute to survivors and condemnation of those who looked away.

As 20 Israeli hostages were released from Hamas captivity on Sunday night, Jewish-Argentine sportscaster Hernán Feller couldn’t hold back his emotions. Broadcasting live during a soccer match between River Plate and Sarmiento, Feller whose aunt was previously freed from Gaza turned his moment on air into a powerful, heartfelt tribute to survival, justice, and Jewish perseverance.
“I dreamed of this day for so long, you can’t imagine,” Feller said, his voice trembling with emotion. “On November 28, 2023, when my aunt Ofelia came back from captivity, I vowed to keep fighting until all the hostages came home. And here I am 20 hostages who survived the hell of Gaza. This nightmare is over.”
Feller has been a consistent voice of advocacy throughout the two-year war, using his sports platform to remind Argentine and global audiences of the hostages’ plight. Even after his aunt, Ofelia Roitman, was freed in 2023, he pledged to remain vocal until every captive was returned.
On Sunday, he delivered more than celebration he delivered a rebuke. “We will not forget or forgive those who stayed silent and looked away,” he declared. “We will not forget or forgive those who spoke of genocide and starvation, nor the antisemites hiding behind a false cause. We will not forget or forgive the collaborators. Know this: we are an unbreakable people. History has proven it.”
His monologue resonated deeply in both Argentine and Israeli media, where it was widely shared and praised. It served not only as a personal victory speech, but also as a voice for Jewish communities across the world still grappling with the war’s impact and global indifference.
Feller ended his address with a single word, spoken in Hebrew: “Home.”
Despite being invited by Israel’s Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev to light a torch at the country’s Independence Day ceremony an honor reserved for figures of national significance Feller respectfully declined. “I cannot celebrate while hostages remain,” he said at the time, a testament to the seriousness with which he has carried this cause.
Now, with the living hostages home, and his promise fulfilled, Feller stands as a symbol of Jewish unity, moral clarity, and unwavering loyalty to family and people even from thousands of miles away.
