Netanyahu’s Caesarea Home Targeted by Hezbollah Drone, Nearby Building Hit
Israeli PM vows retaliation after attempted assassination as IDF investigates drone attack.
On Saturday, a Hezbollah drone targeted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home in the coastal town of Caesarea. Although the drone struck a nearby building, no injuries were reported. Netanyahu and his wife were not home at the time of the attack.
The Prime Minister’s office confirmed the incident, stating that “a building had been hit” in the central town, known for its Roman ruins and amphitheater. In a strong response, Netanyahu released a statement on Saturday evening, condemning the assassination attempt and warning Hezbollah that such efforts would not deter him from continuing Israel’s war efforts.
“The agents of Iran who tried to assassinate me and my wife today made a bitter mistake,” Netanyahu said. He vowed that anyone who harms Israelis “will pay a heavy price,” and reiterated his commitment to eliminating terrorists, returning hostages from Gaza, and ensuring the safety of northern residents.
The attack involved three drones, two of which were successfully intercepted by Israeli defense systems, while the third managed to strike a building near Netanyahu’s residence. There is no indication yet if the Prime Minister’s home was damaged in the attack.
According to Axios, this marks the first time since the war began that a target directly linked to Netanyahu has been hit. The Israeli military is currently investigating issues with its warning system, as no alarms were sounded in Caesarea before the drone strike. While attack helicopters were in the area, they were searching for drones further north.
Residents of Caesarea expressed concern about the lack of warning. One local told Channel 12, “Suddenly, a large explosion was heard, and it was not clear to us if it was from an interception or a drone impact but it was clear that it was a real incident with no prior warning.” He added, “It was very worrying; luckily, there are no casualties.”
Sirens were heard north of Tel Aviv in Glilot, where a major IDF intelligence base and Mossad headquarters are located, but no alerts were issued on platforms like the Home Front Command app.
The IDF is continuing its investigation into the breach in security and defense protocols that allowed the drone to strike without a proper warning.
