Negotiators Await Hamas' Response as Hostage Deal Nears Finalization
Negotiators achieve major breakthrough in Doha, with final approval pending.
A potential breakthrough in hostage negotiations has been reached in Doha, Qatar, as Israeli and U.S. negotiators await Hamas’ formal response to a finalized deal draft.
According to reports from multiple sources, including Reuters and Israeli media, the latest round of talks resulted in significant compromises between the parties. A final draft, facilitated by Qatari mediators, has now been submitted to both Israel and Hamas for approval.
The discussions, held late Sunday into early Monday, involved President-elect Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, the Israeli negotiating team, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
While Israel has reportedly signaled its agreement to the terms, Hamas' politburo must now provide its official response. A source cited by The Jerusalem Post stated that all major elements of the deal have been agreed upon and that only Hamas' final sign-off remains.
“The hostage deal outline is clear, and Israel has come a long, long way,” an Israeli official was quoted as saying. “We are moving forward slowly and carefully. We hope that Hamas will stop with its refusals.”
Despite the progress, The Associated Press reports that while a major step forward has been achieved, neither side has formally accepted the deal yet. Both Israeli and Hamas leadership must review and approve the latest draft.
A senior Israeli official speaking with Channel 13 expressed optimism, stating that if Hamas responds promptly, the deal could be finalized within days.
As negotiations continue, the world watches closely, hoping for a resolution that will bring hostages home and de-escalate the ongoing conflict.
