IAF intercepts missile launched from Yemen
Iranian-backed Houthi attacks highlight growing regional threats to Israel.
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) successfully intercepted a missile launched from Yemen by Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists on Sunday morning, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The projectile was downed before crossing into Israeli territory and posed no immediate threat to populated areas, avoiding the activation of air-raid sirens.
This incident follows a series of Houthi-initiated missile and drone attacks against Israel, underscoring an evolving threat from Yemen. Just last week, a ballistic missile launched from Yemen triggered sirens in the Judean Foothills (Shfela region). That missile was intercepted by Israel’s Arrow defense system, although four civilians sustained injuries while running to shelters.
Houthi aggression has intensified in recent months. In July, a Houthi drone attack killed a civilian in central Tel Aviv, prompting a strong Israeli response. The Israeli Air Force targeted Yemen’s Hodeidah Port in a significant aerial strike, with subsequent operations in September hitting critical infrastructure in the region.
“The strikes targeted power plants, a seaport, and facilities used by the Houthis to transfer Iranian weapons and military supplies,” Jerusalem stated at the time.
The repeated missile and drone launches from Yemen underscore Iran’s growing influence in the region through its proxy militias. The Houthis’ ability to target Israel demonstrates Tehran’s intent to extend its reach and apply pressure beyond traditional flashpoints.
Israel continues to bolster its missile defense systems, including the Arrow and Iron Dome, to counter these emerging threats. The IDF has also stepped up its intelligence and operational efforts to neutralize weapons transfers and disrupt the Houthis’ capabilities.
As regional tensions escalate, Israel remains vigilant, prepared to defend its citizens and infrastructure against threats from Iran and its proxies. Share this story or subscribe to our newsletter for updates on Israel’s defense strategies and regional security.
