Four Hamas Terror Tunnels Uncovered and Destroyed by IDF 36th Division

Operation in Khan Yunis strikes decisive blow to underground terror infrastructure.

In a significant operation over the past month, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that troops from its 36th Division, supported by the elite Yahalom Unit of the Combat Engineering Corps, uncovered and dismantled four subterranean terror tunnels used by Hamas in the southern Gaza Strip.

The mission took place in the city of Khan Yunis east of the Yellow Line under the terms of the U.S.-brokered cease‑fire agreement, according to military sources. Working alongside the 7th Brigade and Golani Brigade under the 36th Division’s command, the forces located and destroyed not only the underground tunnel network but also dozens of above‑ground infrastructure sites containing extensive weapon caches.

In addition to the four major tunnel routes, the 10th Brigade carried out operations behind the Yellow Line in the Khan Yunis area, killing dozens of enemy combatants and dismantling further tunnel systems. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz reaffirmed that neutralising these underground networks remains a top strategic objective within the so‑called “yellow zone.” He emphasised that more than 60 percent of Hamas tunnels remained intact from the earlier war and must be eliminated to prevent regrouping and future attacks.

The operation underscores Israel’s resolve to protect its borders and citizens from renewed terror threats. By systematically locating, destroying and sealing the subterranean routes that Hamas uses to attack Israeli forces, the IDF is denying the terrorist organisation its key advantage of covert movement and surprise infiltration. The collaboration of specialised engineering units and infantry brigades under the 36th Division’s command exemplifies Israel’s layered defence approach: intelligence‑driven, engineering‑enabled, and infantry‑supported.

For citizens of Israel and for all who support Israel’s right to defend itself – this operation sends a clear message: the country remains vigilant, well‑prepared and unwilling to tolerate terror infrastructure anywhere along its frontier. The dismantling of these tunnels also contributes to establishing more durable security conditions during the cease‑fire and whatever long‑term arrangement follows.
