Hezbollah Terror Chief Hassan Nasrallah Killed in IDF Airstrike

Israel intensifies strikes as Hezbollah’s leadership is targeted amid escalating conflict.

In a significant victory for Israel’s ongoing campaign against Hezbollah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Saturday that a targeted airstrike killed longtime Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The operation, named "New Order," targeted Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district, a densely populated area known as a stronghold for the terror group.

Nasrallah’s death, confirmed by Hezbollah after initial uncertainty, is a major blow to the Iran-backed organization, which has been involved in daily hostilities against Israel since October 8. The Israeli Air Force strike also eliminated Ali Karaki, Hezbollah’s third-in-command and head of its southern operations, along with several other senior operatives.

This marks a turning point in Israel’s ongoing war with Hezbollah, which has launched over 9,000 rockets and missiles into Israel, killing more than 40 civilians and soldiers and causing widespread destruction. The IDF has responded with escalating airstrikes aimed at dismantling Hezbollah’s military infrastructure, including weapons depots and command centers across Lebanon.

Following Nasrallah's assassination, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was moved to a secure location. Khamenei had called for Muslims worldwide to stand by Hezbollah and condemned the airstrike as a “dangerous escalation.” Iran’s embassy in Lebanon vowed retaliation for Nasrallah’s death, calling it a crime that "changes the rules of the game."

The IDF also reported killing Mohammed Ismail, Hezbollah’s missile commander in southern Lebanon, who was responsible for launching a ballistic missile at Tel Aviv earlier this week. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi warned that Israel's offensive would continue, stating, “The message is simple: anyone who threatens the citizens of Israel will be dealt with.”

Israel has urged Lebanese civilians to evacuate Hezbollah-controlled areas as airstrikes continue to target terrorist infrastructure. The ongoing conflict has displaced tens of thousands of Israelis and Lebanese civilians alike, with heavy fighting and rocket fire occurring daily.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with the United States and France pushing for a 21-day ceasefire to allow for a potential de-escalation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who cut short his visit to the UN General Assembly to return to Israel, acknowledged the ceasefire proposal but reiterated Israel's commitment to defeating Hezbollah.

Despite calls for peace, Hezbollah remains committed to its campaign, launching multiple rocket attacks on Israel as recently as Saturday. The terror group has suffered significant losses, with hundreds of operatives killed, yet it continues to threaten Israel’s northern communities.

As the conflict rages on, Israel remains resolute in its goal of dismantling Hezbollah’s military capabilities and ensuring the safety of its citizens. The coming days will be critical as the international community watches for signs of either escalation or diplomatic resolution.
