IDF Destroys Key Hamas Tunnel Network in Gaza
Strategic strike eliminates Hamas stronghold and disrupts operations in Jabaliya.
Israeli forces have demolished a two-kilometer-long tunnel in Jabaliya, northern Gaza, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle Hamas’s infrastructure. The tunnel, located several meters underground, was reportedly used by Hamas operatives for prolonged stays and strategic regrouping, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Thursday.
During the operation, troops uncovered and destroyed a weapons cache, which included vests, uniforms, and military equipment. They also eliminated a nearby building used to manufacture explosives. This operation followed the destruction of two other tunnels in southern and central Gaza earlier in the week.
The IDF also confirmed a precision airstrike targeting a vehicle carrying Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives near the Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat. The strike, carried out with measures to minimize civilian harm, neutralized members of the terror squad.
Tragically, the IDF reported the death of Cpt. (res.) Amit Levi, a 35-year-old reserve soldier from Kibbutz Shomria, during operations in central Gaza. The army is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
These operations are part of Israel’s response to Hamas’s October 7 attacks on southern Israeli communities, which claimed the lives of at least 1,200 people and resulted in 252 individuals, including foreign nationals, being taken hostage. Among the remaining 97 hostages, over 30 have been declared dead. Hamas also continues to hold two Israeli civilians and the remains of two IDF soldiers from 2014.
Israel’s campaign aims to dismantle the terror group’s extensive network while safeguarding its citizens and disrupting future threats.
