Half-Ton Hezbollah Explosives Cache Found by IDF Beneath Lebanese Village

Israel Strikes Hezbollah Command Center in Southern Lebanon as Tensions Escalate

Israeli forces seized a half ton of explosives from a Hezbollah command center hidden beneath a village in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Tuesday. Situated eight meters underground, the facility served as a strategic hub for Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force and included a loading dock for transporting munitions. The IDF stated that the underground complex, embedded within a civilian area, was likely constructed several years ago as part of Hezbollah’s broader network across southern Lebanon.

Following the discovery, Israeli troops destroyed both the explosives and the subterranean infrastructure, effectively dismantling a key asset of the Iran-backed terror group. The IDF has not disclosed the village’s name, but the operation underscores growing tensions as Hezbollah intensifies its activity along the Israeli-Lebanese border.

Earlier that day, Hezbollah launched a rocket that struck a home in the northern Israeli town of Maalot-Tarshiha, killing 24-year-old Mohammed Naim and wounding three others. The escalation continues with daily rocket and drone attacks from Hezbollah, forcing the displacement of over 68,000 northern Israeli residents who are now unable to return to their homes. Hezbollah leaders have repeatedly claimed that the attacks will persist, aiming to deter the return of Israelis to their northern communities.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s leadership announced that Deputy Secretary General Naim Qassem will succeed Hassan Nasrallah as the group’s top leader following Nasrallah’s death in an Israeli airstrike. Hashem Safieddine, initially expected to replace Nasrallah, was also killed in an Israeli strike in Beirut. The sudden leadership shift may signal new strategies as Hezbollah and Israel remain on high alert.

The morning also saw an incident near Ashkelon in southern Israel, where a drone launched by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels crashed in an open area, sparking a fire but causing no injuries. The incident highlights the broader regional tensions, as Iran’s proxies across the Middle East increase their hostilities toward Israel.

Under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which marked the end of the 2006 Second Lebanon War, Hezbollah is barred from operating in southern Lebanon. Yet Hezbollah’s ongoing attacks, coupled with its fortified infrastructure within civilian areas, indicate a blatant disregard for international agreements.

The escalation of hostilities follows the October 7 Hamas attacks, which claimed the lives of at least 1,200 people and saw 252 Israelis and foreigners taken hostage. Despite efforts to secure their release, over 97 hostages remain, and more than 30 are confirmed dead. Hamas also continues to hold two Israeli civilians and the bodies of two IDF soldiers since 2014.

Israel’s response to these mounting threats reflects the nation’s resolve to dismantle hostile forces threatening its citizens. As tensions mount along Israel’s northern border, the IDF is maintaining heightened security while continuing to prevent Hezbollah’s expansion within Lebanon.
