Platoon Disbanded, Officers Dismissed by IDF Over West Bank Vandalism
Military enforces zero-tolerance policy as graffiti incident prompts swift disciplinary action.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has taken decisive disciplinary action after a group of reservists vandalized property and graffitied Palestinian homes during a counter-terror raid in the Deheisha refugee camp near Bethlehem on April 2.
The soldiers reportedly spray-painted Stars of David over Arabic slogans and damaged equipment during the mission actions the IDF says were unauthorized and contradicted operational orders. The incident was halted mid-operation, the graffiti covered up, and an immediate investigation was launched.
In response, the IDF has officially dissolved the entire platoon involved. Several commanders have also been dismissed or reprimanded. The battalion commander received a formal reprimand, a company commander was dismissed, another reprimanded, and two additional commanders, along with multiple soldiers, were removed from service.
The investigation, led by West Bank Division commander Brig. Gen. Yaki Dolf and Etzion Regional Brigade commander Col. Gal Rich, concluded that the behavior “contradicts the level of professionalism and values expected of IDF soldiers.” IDF Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth called the incident “grave.”
This disciplinary action reflects the IDF’s firm stance under the leadership of Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, who has prioritized upholding military ethics amid complex wartime operations.
The military’s response follows a similar case last month in the southern West Bank village of Jinba, where troops vandalized property during an unauthorized search. That incident led to multiple dismissals and even jail time for involved soldiers.
Earlier in March, several reservists were also punished in Gaza for firing shots during the Purim Megillah readin an incident that saw a platoon commander removed and nine soldiers sentenced to confinement.
While isolated cases of misconduct are not new, the IDF’s clear trend of swift and public disciplinary action demonstrates its commitment to moral conduct, even during wartime. This commitment is essential to preserving the IDF’s integrity and Israel’s values in the face of global scrutiny.
