IDF seizes Hamas weapons stored in school in southern Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet dismantled key Hamas terror infrastructure across Gaza this week, including the discovery of a weapons cache hidden in a former school building in southern Gaza, the IDF announced Monday.

During operations in the Shabura area of Rafah, troops uncovered a significant underground tunnel route running several hundred meters and buried 20 meters deep. The tunnel, used by Hamas operatives as a key meeting point, connected to other tunnel systems in the region.

In a separate raid, Israeli forces discovered a large weapons cache inside a building that once served as a school. The cache contained mortars, hand grenades, explosives, and various other weapons further evidence of Hamas’ ongoing exploitation of civilian infrastructure in violation of international law.

Elsewhere, IDF troops identified and neutralized a terrorist ambush in northern Gaza, coordinating with the Israeli Air Force to eliminate the threat.

Operations continued in Rafah and the Morag Corridor, where troops located additional tunnel shafts and arms depots used by Hamas and other terrorist factions.

In the last 24 hours alone, the Israeli Air Force struck around 35 targets across Gaza, including a weapons manufacturing facility in the south and a rocket launch site aimed at Israeli territory.

These discoveries highlight Hamas’ strategy of embedding military assets within civilian areas including schools putting innocent lives at risk and violating every norm of warfare. The IDF emphasized that these operations aim to dismantle Hamas’ military capabilities and reduce the threat to Israeli civilians.

Israel remains committed to defending its people and restoring security along its southern border, even as it continues to take precautions to minimize harm to noncombatants caught in the crossfire of Hamas’ cynical tactics.
