Israeli Defense Forces Intercept Ballistic Missile Aimed at Central Israel
Hezbollah launches missile aimed at Mossad headquarters as tensions escalate with Iranian proxy.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted a ballistic missile early Wednesday morning fired from Lebanon by Hezbollah. The missile, reportedly targeting the Mossad intelligence agency headquarters, was intercepted over central Israel by the David's Sling defense system. The system, designed to handle large-caliber rockets and short-range ballistic missiles, successfully neutralized the threat, averting potential disaster in highly populated areas, including Tel Aviv.
Sirens blared across the Gush Dan and Sharon regions, signaling the attack. While emergency services reported no injuries, the interception marked another attempt by Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy, to strike deep into Israel's heartland amid rising tensions in the region.
Shortly after the missile was intercepted, the Israeli Air Force swiftly responded by destroying the launch site in southern Lebanon, east of Tyre. The area, known as Nafakhiyeh, has been identified as a hub for Hezbollah’s military operations. Hezbollah openly claimed responsibility for the attack, asserting that the Mossad headquarters was the intended target, linking it to recent explosions of communication devices in Lebanon that killed several Hezbollah operatives.
This latest missile launch follows a series of escalatory moves from Hezbollah, which has fired over 8,800 rockets, missiles, and drones at Israel since October 2023, forcing tens of thousands of Israelis to evacuate from northern communities. The ongoing barrage has caused widespread disruption to civilian life, particularly in areas bordering Lebanon.
Just days earlier, a Hezbollah rocket landed near the Israeli city of Ariel in central Samaria, and last month, Hamas launched rockets from Gaza toward Tel Aviv. The Iranian-backed Houthi group in Yemen has also been involved, launching a missile aimed at central Israel just weeks ago. Israel's air defenses successfully intercepted the threats, but the continuous assaults highlight the coordination among Iranian proxies across the region.
As part of “Operation Northern Arrows,” the Israeli Air Force has intensified its efforts, striking over 1,600 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley. Despite the heavy bombardment from Hezbollah, Israeli airstrikes have been systematically targeting critical military infrastructure, aiming to reduce the group's capability to launch further attacks.
The situation remains tense as Hezbollah and other Iranian proxies continue their aggressive campaigns against Israel. The IDF remains vigilant, reinforcing defenses while striking back decisively. With over 60,000 Israelis displaced from northern areas and daily life heavily impacted by the threat of further attacks, Israel’s defense systems have played a crucial role in safeguarding its citizens.
In these uncertain times, Israel stands resolute in its defense of the homeland. Share this article and stay updated by subscribing to our newsletter.
