IDF kills senior Hamas operative Nasser Musa in Khan Yunis strike
Head of Rafah Brigade’s military control department was key figure in training and operations against Israel.

The IDF announced Friday that Nasser Musa, a senior operative in Hamas’s Rafah Brigade, was killed in an airstrike in the Khan Yunis area on August 9, 2025. Security forces under the Southern Command targeted Musa in a precision strike, coordinated with the Shin Bet and guided by Military Intelligence.
Musa served as head of Hamas’s military control department, overseeing the readiness and training of brigade operatives who planned and executed terror attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians during the ongoing war. He was a close associate of Rafah Brigade commander Muhammed Shabana, who was killed in May 2025, and previously held multiple posts, including military intelligence officer and head of the observation network.
The IDF said Musa’s elimination dealt another significant blow to Hamas’s Rafah Brigade, degrading its ability to carry out attacks in southern Gaza.
The strike was part of broader IDF operations in the Gaza Strip. On Thursday, Israel Air Force jets targeted a Khan Yunis building used to store rockets intended for launches against Israel and IDF troops. The 36th Division destroyed a terror structure and killed multiple operatives in Khan Yunis; the 143rd Division eliminated dozens of military infrastructures in the south; and in northern Gaza, the 99th Division killed terrorists and destroyed tunnel shafts.
According to the IDF, the coordinated operations across all divisions are aimed at dismantling Hamas’s operational capabilities while preventing further rocket attacks and safeguarding Israeli civilians.
