IDF Intensifies Operations in Rafah, Kills 30 Terrorists

Ground forces dismantle key Hamas infrastructure as conflict continues.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have escalated their military operations against Hamas in Rafah, marking a significant intensification in the ongoing conflict. On Wednesday, the IDF's ground troops successfully eliminated approximately 30 Hamas terrorists and disrupted crucial underground infrastructure within the Gaza Strip's southern city on the 215th day of the war.

Under the leadership of the 162nd Division and guided by intelligence from the Shin Bet and the Military Intelligence Directorate, the IDF has been conducting targeted operations in eastern Rafah. These operations are focused on dismantling the terrorist group's capabilities both above and below ground.

Combat teams from the division's Givati and 401st Armored brigades engaged in close-quarters combat, resulting in the neutralization of multiple terrorists. Notably, a Givati infantryman swiftly identified and neutralized a terrorist armed with a rocket-propelled grenade launcher before he could launch an attack.

Additionally, the 401st Brigade has been actively conducting raids around the Rafah Crossing. This follows intelligence reports suggesting that terrorists were utilizing this critical juncture to fortify their operations. The IDF's control over this crossing has been pivotal, severing a significant logistic and operational lifeline for Hamas.

The IDF's air force also played a crucial role, launching attacks on over a hundred targets across Gaza in the last 24 hours. These strikes have targeted terrorist bases, observation posts, and missile launch positions, further degrading Hamas' operational capacity.

In preparation for these operations, the IDF had previously advised the evacuation of approximately 100,000 civilians from eastern Rafah to designated humanitarian zones, to minimize civilian casualties. Following these orders, about 50,000 residents had evacuated the area within 48 hours, according to reports from UNRWA.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in his first official comments about the operation, emphasized the strategic importance of the IDF's recent achievements. He highlighted the successful seizure of the Rafah Crossing and the removal of Hamas banners as crucial steps toward undermining Hamas' military and governmental capacities in the region.

As the situation in Gaza continues to develop, the IDF remains committed to its objectives of dismantling Hamas' military presence in Rafah, ensuring the security of Israel's borders.
