IDF Declares Security Zones in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria as Permanent

Israeli leadership signals long-term military presence to safeguard borders and deter terror threats.

In a significant declaration of intent, Israel’s Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fox announced that the IDF’s security zones in Gaza, Southern Lebanon, and Syria will remain permanent. The statement, made during an interview with Galey Israel radio on Wednesday, underscores Israel’s strategic pivot toward long-term military positioning along its most volatile borders.

“Unequivocally, the security zones in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria are permanent zones,” said Fox, reinforcing a message that has echoed across Israel’s security leadership since the October 7 Hamas massacre that claimed the lives of over 1,200 Israelis.

Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized this approach again on Wednesday, stating that more territory in Gaza will be incorporated into Israel’s defense infrastructure if Hamas continues to hold hostages. “These plans are already prepared and approved,” he warned, directing a clear message to Gaza’s residents: “Hamas is putting your lives at risk, causing you to lose your homes.”

Katz urged Palestinians in Gaza to call for the removal of Hamas and the immediate release of all hostages. “This is the only way to stop the war,” he said, framing the ongoing campaign as both defensive and transformative.

Beyond Gaza, Katz has also confirmed the indefinite IDF presence at five military outposts in Southern Lebanon, regardless of border negotiations currently underway with Beirut. The move is part of Israel’s effort to shield its northern communities from Hezbollah’s rocket arsenal and cross-border attacks.

In Syria, Katz reiterated Israel’s firm stance. “We are here to protect the residents of the Golan and the Galilee from any threat posed by [Syrian leadership] and his jihadi associates,” he stated. From the strategic heights of Mount Hermon, Israel is keeping watch maintaining deterrence and readiness against any northern aggression.

As part of its heightened defense readiness, the IDF launched a large-scale two-division drill on Wednesday night along the Lebanese border. The exercise, held in coordination with the Israeli Air Force, Navy, and other national emergency services, simulated a wide range of combat and civilian defense scenarios. It focused on reinforcing northern communities and preparing for complex operational contingencies.

Israel’s defense establishment has made it clear: the days of leaving its borders vulnerable are over. These permanent security zones are not only a reaction to recent trauma but a proactive measure to ensure that threats like October 7 never happen again.
