IDF Reports Demolition of 1.5-Kilometer Tunnel in Northern Gaza

Northern Brigade troops and Southern Command engineers destroyed the underground route east of the Yellow Line, the IDF said.

IDF forces in northern Gaza located and destroyed a terror tunnel stretching about 1.5 kilometers, TPS-IL reported in a dispatch carried by IsraelFM. The work was done by Northern Brigade troops, under the command of the 99th Division, together with Southern Command engineering forces. The army said the operation is part of continuing efforts to clear terrorist infrastructure in northern Gaza, east of the Yellow Line.

The IDF said its forces remain deployed across the area under the terms of the ceasefire agreement and will keep operating to remove any immediate threats, according to TPS-IL. The military did not give further details about where the tunnel was, how it was built or whether it was connected to Hamas infrastructure, TPS-IL reported.

Itón Gadol reported that the IDF made the announcement on Monday and said the demolition was carried out recently by combat engineering units. According to the military statement cited by Itón Gadol, the work is part of ongoing efforts to find and destroy infrastructure used by Hamas in the areas of Gaza under Israeli control.

The IDF said destroying tunnels remains one of its main operational goals in Gaza, Itón Gadol reported, because these structures were used to move terrorists, store weapons and plan attacks against Israel. The demolition fits within operations aimed at removing the military capabilities of Hamas and other armed groups in the Strip, and at preventing the rebuilding of terrorist infrastructure since the ceasefire began, according to Itón Gadol.

What it means: the ceasefire has not ended the work underground. Three years after October 7, Israeli engineers are still clearing terror tunnels beneath Gaza, one at a time, so that what was made for terror cannot be used again.
