The IDF and the Shin Bet said in a joint announcement that they killed the head of operations in Hamas's military intelligence apparatus in Gaza City. The announcement said the man had held Omer Shem Tov in Hamas captivity. WarStrikes carried the joint announcement on November 4 and places the strike in Gaza City in the Gaza Strip.
Shem Tov was one of the 251 hostages Hamas-led terrorists dragged into Gaza on October 7, 2023. By the end of January 2026, every hostage, living and dead, had been returned to Israel.
The announcement gives few other details about the man or the strike. What it does say is pointed. Israel's security services tied this Hamas terrorist to a specific hostage by name, and said so publicly when they announced his death.
That is the meaning of this week's news. The hostages are home, but the men who guarded them are still being tracked and found. For those who held Israelis in captivity, the accounting is not over.
