IDF Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen Following Missile Attack on Central Israel
Israeli Air Force operations disrupt Iranian-backed threats in the region.
In a decisive response to a ballistic missile attack on central Israel, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) launched overnight strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation with the Iranian-backed terror group.
The missile, intercepted by Israel’s defense systems, caused severe damage to a school in the Ramat Efal neighborhood near Tel Aviv when interceptor shrapnel hit the building. No injuries were reported, but classes were canceled as safety assessments were conducted.
The IDF carried out two waves of airstrikes using 14 fighter jets, refuelers, and reconnaissance planes. The first wave, at 3:15 a.m., targeted strategic sites including the Ras Isa oil terminal and the ports of Hodeidah and Salif, destroying eight tugboats used for smuggling Iranian weapons. The second wave, at 4:30 a.m., struck power stations in Sana’a, the Yemeni capital.
In a statement, the IDF described the strikes as a critical measure to degrade the Houthi regime’s ability to threaten Israel. “The conducted strikes degrade the Houthi terrorist regime, preventing it from exploiting the targets for military and terrorist purposes, including the smuggling of Iranian weapons to the region,” the statement read.
The Houthi rebels, aligned with Iran, have launched over 200 missiles and 170 drones at Israel since the October 7 Hamas massacre. Most attacks have been intercepted by Israel or U.S. defense systems before reaching Israeli territory.
The IDF linked these activities to Iran’s broader strategy of using proxies to destabilize the Middle East and target Israel. “The Houthis are also targeting other countries... with their attacks on international shipping vessels and roots in the Red Sea,” said IDF Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari. “The regime in Iran funds, arms, and directs the Houthi’s terror activities.”
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stern warning to the Houthi leadership: “The long arm of Israel will reach you. Whoever raises a hand [against us] will have it severed.” President Isaac Herzog commended the IAF, praising their bravery and operational success.
In recent months, Houthi aggression has led to a series of missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Yavne. The IDF has responded with strikes on critical infrastructure in Yemen, disrupting smuggling routes and neutralizing threats.
As the conflict continues, the Houthis’ attacks have drawn international attention. Their actions, supported by Iran, pose risks to regional stability, international shipping, and civilian safety in multiple nations. Israel remains committed to defending its people and neutralizing threats wherever they arise.
