IDF Targets Syrian Military HQ in Response to Threats Against Druze in Sweida
Israel intensifies cross-border operations to defend Druze amid regime atrocities in Sweida.

In a powerful show of defense and solidarity, the IDF launched targeted airstrikes this week on Syrian regime military sites in the Damascus region in response to escalating violence against Druze civilians in southern Syria’s Sweida province. The strikes mark a strategic and moral stand to protect a persecuted community deeply connected to Israel.
According to the IDF, Israeli aircraft hit armored vehicles, rocket launchers, and access routes leading to Sweida, a region with a significant Druze population that has come under assault from forces loyal to Syria's Sunni Islamist regime. Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a clear ultimatum: “The Syrian regime must leave the Druze in Sweida alone… or face escalating Israeli military responses.”
This operation is not just a tactical mission it’s a declaration that Israel will not remain idle as atrocities unfold on its doorstep. The IDF reinforced its northern border with three new military companies, including units from the Golani Brigade and the Border Police, amid fears that members of Israel’s Druze community might attempt to cross into Syria to aid relatives.
Tragically, some already have. Dozens of Israeli Druze crossed into Syrian territory from Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights before being safely returned by the IDF. These attempts reflect the depth of anguish and urgency felt by the Druze population in Israel as they witness brutal repression across the border.
Reports from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights have painted a harrowing picture: over 240 killed, widespread destruction of homes and churches, and horrific human rights abuses. Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli described these atrocities as the “October 7th of the Druze,” condemning Western silence on the issue and highlighting the brutality of the new Syrian leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former al-Qaeda terrorist.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has authorized the IDF to act decisively, citing Israel’s historical and familial bond with the Druze people. “We are committed to preventing harm to the Druze in Syria,” stated the Prime Minister’s Office, reaffirming the depth of this alliance.
The sweeping Israeli response comes in the wake of last year’s collapse of the Assad regime and the takeover of southern Syria by jihadist factions. In response, Israel secured strategic areas on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights to prevent hostile infiltration.
This is not just a military campaign it is a stand for justice, protection, and shared destiny. Israel’s actions send a clear message when our neighbors are in danger and innocent lives are threatened, we act not with words, but with resolve.
