IDF Chief Vows Gaza Will Never Threaten Israel Again
Lt.-Gen. Zamir says military pressure and strategic readiness will prevent Hamas from reemerging.

In a resolute message to the nation and its enemies, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir declared Sunday night that the Gaza Strip will never again pose a threat to the State of Israel. The statement, delivered in the wake of intense military operations and shifting regional dynamics, signaled a clear shift in Israel’s defense posture moving forward.
“The military pressure we have exerted over the past two years, together with the complementary political move, constitutes a victory over Hamas,” Zamir said. He doubled down on this position, adding, “The Gaza Strip will not constitute a threat again to the State of Israel.”
While stopping short of declaring Hamas disarmed, Zamir underscored the IDF’s intent to swiftly neutralize any resurgence. “Anytime Hamas raises its head, we will be there,” he emphasized. “Our actions will speak for themselves.”
Zamir’s comments reflect the IDF’s sharpened focus on deterrence and preparedness in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks a day that left an indelible mark on Israeli society and military doctrine. While Hamas's complete disarmament remains a debated topic among defense officials, there is growing consensus that neutralizing key operational capabilities, particularly tunnel infrastructure, is central to preventing another escalation.
Earlier on Sunday, Defense Minister Israel Katz hinted at a broader, if somewhat ambiguous, strategy. He mentioned disarmament “through a process,” possibly involving international peacekeepers, and pointed to the systematic destruction of Hamas’s tunnel networks as evidence of progress.
Top defense sources, while not fully aligning on methods, supported the IDF’s current direction. They noted that eliminating the strategic and attack tunnels significantly reduces Hamas's ability to launch surprise offensives, even if it doesn't fully disarm the terror organization.
This approach echoes lessons from the 2014 conflict, when early calls to "crush Hamas" were tempered over time into more focused goals like dismantling tunnel networks in key operational zones. Today, those tactics have evolved, guided by advanced intelligence, upgraded military capabilities, and hard-earned experience.
Zamir’s vow is more than rhetoric it reflects a national mission to ensure that Israeli civilians never again face the horrors of October 7. It’s a commitment rooted in strength, vigilance, and a forward-looking strategy that prioritizes both security and the long-term stability of the region.
