Iranian VP Accuses Israel of Planting Explosives in Nuclear Centrifuge Equipment

Claims of sabotage highlight ongoing shadow war between Israel and Iran.

Iranian Vice President Mohammad Javad Zarif has accused Israel of attempting to sabotage Iran’s nuclear program by embedding explosives in centrifuge equipment, according to a report by Iran International on Tuesday.

Zarif stated in an online interview preview that Iranian officials discovered and neutralized the explosives before they could detonate. He blamed international sanctions for making Iran more vulnerable to such foreign interference.

"Our colleagues had purchased a centrifuge platform for the Atomic Energy Organization, and it was discovered that explosives had been embedded inside it, which they managed to detect," Zarif claimed on the Hozour (Presence) program.

While he did not specify when the alleged incident took place, he suggested that sanctions forced Iran to rely on intermediaries, making it easier for foreign intelligence agencies to infiltrate supply chains.

Zarif also cited a September 2024 explosion that reportedly disabled thousands of Hezbollah communications devices, resulting in 32 deaths and over 3,000 injuries. He claimed this attack was part of a long-term Israeli effort to infiltrate Iranian suppliers.

"The issue with the pagers in Lebanon turned out to be a multi-year process, meticulously orchestrated by the Zionists," he alleged.

Following that incident, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard suspended its communication systems, launching an internal investigation into potential security breaches.

Israel has not responded to the claims, but allegations of covert Israeli operations targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure are nothing new. From cyberattacks like the Stuxnet virus to the targeted assassinations of Iranian nuclear scientists, a longstanding shadow war continues between the two nations.

While Iran blames sanctions for its security vulnerabilities, the larger issue remains Iran’s nuclear ambitions, which Israel views as an existential threat. If these latest claims are true, they would only reinforce the intensity of the ongoing intelligence battle between the two adversaries.
