Israeli Sister of Ismail Haniyeh Charged with Incitement
Sabah Haniyeh faces charges for pro-Hamas content despite denying involvement.
Sabah Haniyeh, the sister of former Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, has been indicted in Israel for incitement and supporting a terrorist organization. The charges stem from her alleged promotion of pro-Hamas content on social media, despite her denial of involvement with the group.
During her interrogation by Israeli police, Sabah Haniyeh, who has lived in Israel for over 40 years, firmly denied any connection to Hamas. “The last time I spoke with my brother was nearly a year ago, and we don’t discuss politics,” she insisted.
Ismail Haniyeh, who led Hamas’s political wing before being assassinated in Tehran in July, was known for his involvement in orchestrating Hamas's activities against Israel. His sister, however, claimed that she has had little contact with him and does not interfere in his political affairs.
Police investigators challenged Sabah’s claims, presenting evidence suggesting that she had shared pro-Hamas content online. Though she denied using social media for such purposes, the police maintained that the materials collected pointed to her support for the group.
Sabah, originally from Gaza, gained Israeli citizenship through her marriage to an Arab Israeli. She mentioned that aside from her, her entire family has passed away, except for her brother, who remained active in Gaza until his death.
This case highlights the complexities surrounding individuals with familial ties to known terrorist leaders, raising questions about their influence and involvement in supporting such organizations.
