Syrian Coastal Region Hit as Israel Strikes Assad’s Military Assets
Powerful overnight airstrikes target strategic installations, sparking tremors.
Israel launched a series of airstrikes late Sunday night, targeting military assets in Syria's coastal regions. The strikes, which reportedly focused on the port cities of Latakia and Tartus, were described by local sources as exceptionally intense, with their force triggering minor earthquakes.
According to Syrian and Russian media, the strikes hit significant military targets, including an air defense base and a surface-to-surface missile depot in Tartus. The city also hosts a Russian naval base and military shipyard, underscoring the sensitive nature of the region.
Reports also indicated that additional strikes occurred in Hama and Homs, extending the reach of the operation. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor affiliated with the Syrian opposition, described these attacks as the heaviest in Syria’s coastal region in over a decade.
Seismic activity was recorded during the strikes, adding an unusual dimension to the events. The VolcanoDiscovery website reported a 3.0-magnitude earthquake in the Tartus area at 1:48 a.m. Damascus time, while Israel's Geological Survey detected a 3.1 tremor off the Syrian coast earlier in the night.
These airstrikes reflect Israel’s ongoing efforts to neutralize threats in Syria, particularly those tied to Iran and its proxies. Israeli officials have consistently reiterated their resolve to prevent the transfer of advanced weaponry to Hezbollah and to dismantle any military infrastructure that could pose a threat to Israel’s security.
The strikes in Syria’s coastal region underline the high stakes of Israel’s mission to maintain its strategic advantage in a volatile region. As tensions remain high, Israel's commitment to safeguarding its people and ensuring regional stability remains unwavering.
