Israel Joins Global Push to Break Free from Chinese Mineral Dependence
Gideon Sa’ar represents Israel in Washington as over 50 nations unite to secure critical mineral supply chains.

Israel took center stage in a pivotal diplomatic effort this month, as Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar represented the country at the Critical Minerals conference in Washington, D.C. This strategic gathering, hosted by the United States, united over 50 nations to confront a growing global concern the overwhelming reliance on China for materials essential to defense, artificial intelligence, and advanced technology.
Critical minerals, such as rare earth elements, are the backbone of industries ranging from semiconductors and smart devices to missile systems and fighter jets. The conference signaled a clear message: dependence on a single supplier, especially one with adversarial tendencies, poses a serious threat to global stability and national security.
Gideon Sa’ar highlighted Israel’s position within this international initiative, underscoring the alignment with one of Prime Minister Netanyahu’s major goals cementing Israel as a global leader in AI and high-tech innovation. “The broad international coalition led by the US is designed to create a new international system that will guarantee its members the supply of critical minerals for various industries, essential to their economies and national security,” Sa’ar stated.
The summit explored various methods to counterbalance China’s pricing strategies, including setting minimum price standards and implementing tariffs to protect miners outside China from being undercut. US Vice President JD Vance introduced the idea of a preferential trade zone among allies, dedicated to critical minerals, aiming to ensure secure access through trusted supply chains.
This move represents a shift in American and allied economic policy from dependency to self-sufficiency. By emphasizing the development, refinement, and production of these vital resources within allied nations, the US and its partners are seeking to forge a secure and sustainable future.
For Israel, this initiative is not merely about minerals. It is a declaration of its place among the world’s technology leaders. Israeli innovation has already transformed global sectors ranging from cybersecurity to medical tech. Now, as it joins forces to secure critical mineral resources, Israel continues to punch far above its weight on the world stage.
This gathering in Washington reflects more than a policy shift it reflects unity among allies who are determined to protect their sovereignty, economies, and technological futures. And Israel is right where it belongs at the heart of the solution.
