Israeli Defense Sector Poised to Hit All-Time High in Weapon Exports

Surging demand for battle-proven Israeli defense systems drives unprecedented growth.

Israel’s defense industry is on track to achieve a historic record in weapon sales, driven by rising global demand for its battle-proven air defense systems, according to a Wall Street Journal report published Thursday.

The collective backlog for Israel’s top three defense firms Elbit Systems, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has surged by over 25%, surpassing the 23% increase recorded for all of 2023.

Foreign governments are increasingly turning to Israel for advanced missile defense systems such as the Iron Dome and the Arrow missile, both of which have demonstrated their effectiveness during over a year of conflict.

Slovakia’s Defense Ministry, which recently signed a €560 million deal for IAI’s Barak MX Integrated Air Defense System, emphasized the importance of purchasing from a country with combat experience.

“It is very important that the selling country is experienced in using the capability they offer us,” Slovakia’s Defense Ministry stated. “There is no doubt about Israel’s rich experience in the field of air defense.”

The Israeli government is also investing heavily in domestic defense production. Earlier this week, the Defense Ministry signed two major deals worth NIS 1 billion ($275 million) with Elbit Systems, aimed at boosting the IDF’s self-sufficiency and operational readiness.

The agreements include:

  • Production of thousands of heavy air munitions to enhance the IDF’s strike capabilities.

  • Construction of a national raw materials facility to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and secure Israel’s defense supply chain.

Due to surging domestic and international orders, Israel’s defense industry has accelerated production to meet growing demand.

“We needed to work much more than we used to because demand increased in Israel and all over the world,” said Boaz Levy, CEO of IAI.

With ongoing conflicts and global instability, Israel’s reputation as a leader in advanced defense technology continues to strengthen, driving record-breaking sales and expanding its role as a key player in international security.
