Israel to Establish Embassy in Fiji by 2026

New diplomatic mission will deepen ties with Pacific nations following Fiji’s bold move to open embassy in Jerusalem.

In a major diplomatic step aimed at strengthening Israel’s presence in the Pacific, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced Thursday that Israel will open an embassy in the Republic of Fiji in 2026. The announcement came during a phone call between Sa’ar and Fijian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

“Opening the new embassy will tighten the relations between the two countries,” Sa’ar said in a post on X. “At the same time, Israel’s embassy in Fiji will strengthen Israel’s presence in the entire Pacific region, which is friendly to Israel.”

This move comes just months after Fiji made history by opening its own embassy in Jerusalem the first Pacific island nation to do so. The inauguration ceremony, held in September, was attended by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and PM Rabuka, and marked a new era of mutual respect and cooperation between the two countries.

At that event, Rabuka spoke warmly of Fiji’s connection to Israel, both spiritually and strategically. “The people of Fiji share a very close religious and cultural connection to the Holy Land,” he said. “Our similarities, faith, and common values continue to strengthen us together in unity and solidarity.”

During this week’s conversation, Rabuka reaffirmed his country’s deep commitment to Israel. “We will always stand with you,” he told Sa’ar.

Israeli officials view the opening of an embassy in Fiji as far more than a bilateral gesture. The embassy will serve as a strategic diplomatic hub for the Pacific region, reinforcing Israel’s growing relationships with island nations that have repeatedly proven to be supportive in global forums such as the United Nations.

Fiji, in particular, has emerged as one of Israel’s most consistent allies on the world stage. Its bold decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem was seen as a vote of confidence not only in Israel’s sovereignty but in the shared values that bind the two nations.

By reciprocating Fiji’s move, Israel is not only honoring a close partner, but also signaling its intention to deepen ties across the Pacific an often overlooked but increasingly important arena in international diplomacy.

This new embassy will stand as a testament to friendship, faith, and a shared vision of cooperation across cultures and continents.
